WIZZ AIR UKRAINE CUTS FARES AND ADJUSTS CAPACITY

19/03/2014
Wizz Air Ukraine announced today that it would react to changing travel demand in Ukraine by cutting fares and adjusting its network and capacity plan.

To stimulate air travel in an environment of lower market demand the airline has cut fares sharply – on average by 20%* – in recent weeks. Extraordinarily low fares will remain available to the travelling public for as long as weak market conditions prevail.

Starting from 30 April 2014 the following changes to Wizz Air’s route network will be effective:

TO BE STARTED:
Lvov – Valencia
Lvov - Rome Fiumicino
Lvov - Tel-Aviv
Lvov – Naples
Lvov - Barcelona Girona
Lvov – Kutaisi
Kiev - Larnaca

TO BE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED:
Donetsk - Rome Fiumicino
Donetsk - Milan Bergamo
Donetsk – Larnaca
Donetsk – Budapest
Donetsk - Dortmund

Customers with bookings affected by the temporary suspensions are being contacted by Wizz Air and offered a full refund. The adjusted route network of Wizz Air Ukraine represents 130 flights per week in May 2014, the same number as in the same period a year ago.

Akos Bus, Director General of Wizz Air Ukraine said: "Wizz Air remains highly committed to providing an efficient low cost infrastructure to Ukrainian travellers. We are here for the long run. Nevertheless we continuously monitor travel demand and effects on travel behaviour to best meet the needs of our customers through low ticket fares and great services as well as capacity planning, adequate to the market. The measures we have just announced are temporary. We aim to restore our original growth plan as soon as possible."

WIZZ AIR HALVES BELGRADE FLEET AFTER AIRPORT BECOMES TOO EXPENSIVE

Over 130,000 seats and over 700 flights lost in 2014

03/04/2014
Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, today announced the halving of its Belgrade capacity with the closure of low fare services to Oslo Torp and Brussels Charleroi and the reduction of flight frequencies to other destinations after airport charges rose  by 40%, making Belgrade Airport the most expensive in Wizz Air’s base network. The Belgrade routes to Oslo and Brussels will be discontinued from 6 May, and customers with bookings affected by these cuts will be offered a full refund.

Wizz Air’s airbase in Belgrade opened in 2010 with one Airbus A320 and 5 routes. Serbian consumers quickly embraced Wizz Air’s offer of low fares and popular destinations and the airline grew its base by adding a 2nd new Airbus A320 in 2012 and by offering 12 international routes as of today. Wizz Air’s passenger traffic at Belgrade Airport increased by over 800% from 2010 to over 480,000 passengers in 2013, while the overall airport traffic grew by 31%*, making Wizz Air the driving force of passenger growth. The continued access of Serbian consumers to low cost air travel is now jeopardized by the airport’s refusal to further incentivize low cost air travel, affordable to all consumers. Instead, the airport prepared a tailor made incentive scheme that protects one high fare airline and its transfer passenger focused business model. Wizz Air regrets this decision as it does not benefit those passengers seeking the lowest fares. The Belgrade based aircraft will now be based in Latvia’s capital Riga, where airport costs don’t protect high fare airlines and air traffic can be stimulated by giving consumers access to low fares.

6 NEW ROUTES FROM 5 POLISH AIRPORTS

10/07/2014
Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe*, today announced further enhancements to its low fare route network from Poland, with 6 new routes from 5 different airports. Flights to Glasgow from Katowice and Poznan will start on 26 October and 28 October respectively, from 27 October Warsaw will have a service to Bergen and Szczecin will be linked to London Luton, while two new destinations in the Netherlands will be added: flights to Groningen from Gdansk and flights to Maastricht from Katowice will start on 28 October.

Groningen, the 97th Wizz Air destination, is the largest city in the North of the Netherlands and known as the “Capital city for bicycling”. Maastricht, Wizz Air’s 98th destination, is located in the South of the Netherlands and is the birthplace of the European Union and the Euro currency. While it’s one of the oldest Dutch cities, it also has one of the youngest populations with students from all over Europe creating an international and vibrant lifestyle. The new services to the Netherlands, Norway and the UK complement what is already a great choice of low fare routes for Polish consumers.

With these 6 new services Wizz Air is now offering a total of 90 routes to 17 countries from Poland. While the airline increased its offer from Warsaw’s centrally located Chopin Airport by over 20% year on year this summer season, these new flights demonstrate Wizz Air’s commitment to increasing further the choice of low fare flights, growing tourism and supporting employment in the Polish regions.

22JUL2014
Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) is reportedly planning to develop the Bosnia-Herzegovinan town of Tuzla Int'l into a base. EX-YU Aviation News reports airline officials have already held preliminary talks with the country's Minister for Transport and Communication, Enver Bijedić, as well as officials representing both the airport and the regional government.

At present, Wizzair's Tuzla operations include flights to Basle/Mulhouse/Freiburg, Dortmund, Eindhoven, Gothenburg City, and Malmö.

Should the move go forward, it would become the LCC's third base in the former Yugoslavia after Belgrade in Serbia and Skopje in Macedonia.
